Description
A foaming leather cleaner for everyday dirt
Most leather doesn’t look tired because it’s worn out — it looks tired because it’s dirty. Body oils, hair products, dust and old polish build up slowly, especially on armrests, headrests and seat cushions. Balsamio Leather Cleaner is a foaming cleaner that lifts that buildup so the leather looks like itself again. It’s the first step of our two-step routine, followed by Balsamio Leather Conditioner.
Why foam
Leather doesn’t like to be soaked. A liquid cleaner poured on the surface can run into seams, stitching and perforations. Foam stays where you put it, loosens dirt at the surface and wipes away cleanly — the way we clean furniture in the workshop. You apply it to a sponge, not to the leather, so you control exactly how much is used.
Which leather it’s for
- Finished / pigmented leather — most sofas, armchairs and car seats
- Semi-aniline leather
- Aniline leather — spot-test first
- Faux leather and vinyl
Not for: suede or nubuck. If you’re unsure what your piece is made of, see how to identify your leather type.
How to use
- Vacuum first to remove crumbs and grit.
- Spot-test on a hidden area and let it dry.
- Pump foam onto a sponge — not directly onto the leather.
- Work gently in small sections with light, circular motions. Pay extra attention to armrests, headrests and seat edges.
- Wipe away with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
- Condition once the leather is dry, with Conditioning Balm.

What not to use on leather
Household sprays, dish soap, vinegar, rubbing alcohol and baby wipes can strip the finish or dry leather out. For ink, oil and other specific stains, see our Stains & Problems guides in the Leather Guide.
FAQ
How often should I clean leather furniture?
Dust or wipe weekly, and do a proper clean with a leather cleaner every 1–3 months on high-use pieces, or whenever the leather looks dull or feels sticky.
Does it work on faux leather?
Yes, the cleaner can be used on faux leather and vinyl. The conditioner is for real leather only.
Do I need a conditioner after cleaning?
For real leather, yes. Cleaning removes buildup; conditioning afterwards helps keep leather soft. See leather cleaner vs conditioner.
Can it remove ink or grease stains?
Fresh, light marks often lift with regular cleaning. Set-in ink and oil stains need a specific method — check the stain guides before you start.
Is there a kit?
Yes — the Leather Cleaner and Conditioner Kit includes the cleaner, the balm, a sponge and two microfiber cloths, and ships free.
